We are proud of our success in teaching students ages 10-15 with diverse learning needs ( gifted learners, students diagnosed with ADD/ADHD, ASD, learning disabilities, and anyone who has felt bored, disengaged, or unsupported in their previous school.) We are an inclusive school, welcoming all learning styles and individual educational goals.

HOW WE TEACH
We are a very small school (under 30 students) with class sizes ranging between 2-7 students. We are an English speaking school based on a blended learning approach. Students meet in person (at Chateau Le Sallay in Burgundy, France) 4 times a year for 3 weeks at a time. The rest of the year is taught online in a virtual classroom with robust social emotional support. We have found that this set up of blended learning is especially beneficial for students with diverse learning needs (gifted learners, students diagnosed with ADHD, learning disabilities, and ASD,) and many of our neuroatypical students prefer this healthy combination of socialization and privacy. EXPERT TEAM
We employ a multi-national team of teachers, who are content experts in their subjects, holding PhDs from top universities from around the world. Our teachers are able to engage the disengaged student and provide an in-depth approach to learning, creating an academically rich learning atmosphere for students who have previously been bored in school. Following the principles of inclusion, our classes are co-taught, ensuring that students receive the appropriate level of challenge and individualized attention for their learning needs. Our students' well being is carefully monitored by a highly qualified team of psychologists and counsellors who receive special training to support students' social emotional needs.
Individual Approach
At the beginning of each school year, we start with establishing learning targets for each student and understanding their present levels of performance. Our classes are formed to suit students' strengths and areas of need, along with supporting socio-emotional development.

During the initial in-person session, students interact with each other and their teachers, building a positive rapport for successful learning during the online sessions to follow. Chateau In-Person Sessions
We address our students' diverse learning needs by employing experts in special education to provide necessary accommodations and co-teaching across all content areas as necessary. Our classes follow the co-teaching models of Dr. Marilyn Friend, with a typical class size ranging from 3-4 students. Our students are able to utilize a variety of accommodations such as sensory objects, weighted blankets, various seating arrangements within the classroom, movement breaks, and benefit our hands-on classes taught outside on the chateau grounds. Our classes are designed to meet a variety of learning styles and are flexibly adjusted throughout the school year as needed. On-line learning
Modern technology allows Le Sallay to create engaging virtual classrooms in which students are able to stay motivated learning from the comfort of their own home. We engage our students through the use of an educational gamification platform which transforms our assignments into quests and exciting boss battles.

What parents of our diverse learning students are asking
Are all the students in Le Sallay diverse learners?
We are an inclusive school and teach neorotypical students as well as neurodiverse ones. We typically keep a balance of 20% of students with diverse learning needs to 80% of students qualifying under general education in each class
What admission tests my child has to take?
Many boarding schools require stringent and stressful testing to be admitted into, which is taxing on children and often does not demonstrate their full range of abilities. Our school does not require this for admission. Actually we don't require any entry tests to determine academic levels and intellectual capabilities. The only test we administer is English language level for non-native speakers and that only because the instruction is in English.
How do you plan to integrate children with diverse learning needs into online education?
Our system allows students to first establish a rapport with their teacher during in-person sessions in France, and only then enter into online interaction. For all students, the establishment of a rapport is essential, therefore we dedicate our in-person sessions at school mostly to this.
How will my child adapt to transitions between distance learning at home and in-person sessions, and back home again?
The first day at in-person sessions will be dedicated to making and reestablishing acquaintances within the framework of gamified tests that establish the level of knowledge of various subjects to form workshop groups. Classes start on the second day. The last day will also be dedicated to enjoyable tests and concluding activities aimed at psychological closure – and at celebrating new friendships.
At the end of in-person sessions, students will receive short assignments to be completed in the first two days at home. These assignments help the child share camp experiences with parents. Online classes will resume on the third day home and include a discussion of post-camp assignments. This will smooth the transition to online studies.
